Written in 2020 for baritone voice and tape (3 minutes)

That was written as part of the Rhymes With Opera (RIP) Pocket Opera Workshop – which I suspect was a reaction to COVID. I vaguely remember the deadline for the call and the thing itself being rather close to each other, and the whole thing was virtual in the Summer of 2020 anyway.

I keep going back and forth on this piece. Is it good? Does is suck? Do I really like it? Do I hate it? Ultimately, I’ve decided to keep it around, although this recording is the only time is has been looked at and performed, and I sort of hid the piece away after… I like the sound world –all field recordings recorded during the Summer of COVID, and this piece is a rare instance of what at least feels like a deeply persona a deeply personal topic being expressed (which I won’t get into here).

This piece is probably the last time I will use the little graphic images for the fixed media part… maybe… I don’t know… I don’t write a lot of music like this.
