Two Subjects form a Single Image

Written in 2022 for Ukulele and fixed media (6 minutes)

This goofy little piece was written in 2022 for Brian Ellis after seeing a solicitation for works for ukulele and electronics. I wrote Brian an email and get got to talking and found we had a lot in common and the piece was on! By this point, I had already released my album of guitar music on NCTMMRN and felt like this was a good place to try a lighter piece for plucked instruments. That is not to say that the ukulele implies any artistic “lightness” – I think there is a profundity that can come from the instrument despite any prejudices I may have had for the instrument coming into the project. Still, I needed to try something fun, something I enjoyed playing myself as well. So, I got my hands on a uke (thanks Nico) and started plugging away at this short, but fun piece.
